Derwydden arrives at his ancestral home and takes in the view:
Riding into the courtyard, the carriage of the Baroness and her family behind him. It has been a long journey from Reading and the servant's rush to assist with the carriage and luggage:
Derwydden dismounts his horse and walks around the back of the castle to look at the gardens and surrounding countryside.
He is indeed blessed to be home. When everybody has freshened up and eaten, he will give them a tour and show them to their respective rooms.

Richgrams has arrived from Dartmouth and surveys the beauty of this land which is so new to her.
Her heart knows that she'll be happy here.
She is having something to eat with the others, waiting to be shown to her room.

Derwydden shows everybody into the Oak Parlour, as the dining hall is empty of furniture at present.
He has the servants bring in the food that has been prepared and hopes that it is to everyone's liking. The table has been set exquisitely.

As Smom finishes freshening up from the road in the small room off the Foyer, she greets Derwydden once more."Was a pleasant trip M'Lord but not one I wish to make again for a long time." as she looks at him and smiles she sees a familiar face behind him. Rushing past him almost in an instant she wraps her arms around her mother and holds her tightly "Oh mother, I have missed you so." holding her at arms length for a moment before hugging her again. When she finally lets go, "I was so happy to learn Derwydden invited you here to be with us in his lovely home."
As Derwydden shows them all to the Oak Parlour she is impressed by the amount and variety of food he has had his staff prepare for them.

Gil pulls up on mate and looks over the mansion before him. He lets out a long low whistle and continues on up the path to the "shack". He dismounts at the front and lets the reins just dangle freely, knowing very well that 'Mate' will be there when he returns. He mounts the steps to the front porch and looks into the windows beside the door. He raps loudly on the door wondering if anyone in that huge place would hear it. He knocks again for good measure whle still peering through the side....

Hearing a loud knock at the door, Derwydden sends one of the servants to answer it. The man hurries back and tells him that a rough looking man called Gil as at the door, seeking an audience with the Earl.
"My good man, please invite Gil into the castle. Bring him here to the parlour, we still have plenty of food and I'm sure Smom and Richgrams would be happy to see him"
Derwydden sends the servant on his way, happy that his new friend had managed to make the long journey north.
"I wish we had some of his fine bread and pastries, but no matter; I'm sure we will sample his fair again in all good time".
Derwydden looks around the table at Smom and Richgrams and can't help but reach his hand forward to touch Smom's. Looking at her he smiles.
"I'm so glad you decided to come. Hopefully this can be a new start for all of us."

Hearing Gil has arrived she finally feels like this can be home. She looks at her mother, she is so grateful to Derwydden for bringing her mother here. Turning and looking at Derwydden she sees he is looking at her too smiling, he reaches for her hand which she offers gladly as she smiles back, waiting for Gil to join them.
"M'Lord I do believe it shall be the start of a wonderful new life for all of us. I am very happy that I agreed to come north." she gives his hand a gentle squeeze as she continues to look at him, almost embarrassed she has not broken the gaze, yet can't stop looking at him.

As he sits there starring into her eyes and smiling, he feels her squeeze his hand. What is it about this lady, that puts his so at ease; makes each day a joy to behold.
As he sits looking at Smom, still smiling ; he turns his gaze to her mother, Richgrams and can see the inherent beauty that runs in the Morgan family lines.
"M'lady, I am so glad you decided to join us here at Naworth. I know it makes your daughter very happy and you will be especially welcome in the coming months as she deals with her pregnancy."

Richgrams blushes at the unspoken compliment. Smom was so right when she said that his eyes bespeak novels.
"M'Lord, I have lived too far from my daughter for too long. I am very pleased to have been invited to move here. I'm hoping to have a room just a short distance from where the nursery will be."

Gil is shown into the room where the others have gathered. His trademark smile planted firmly on his face. He looks fairly unimpressed with all the lavish furnishings and trappings around him. He notices another lady in the room whom he hasn't yet met. He makes a perfectly flawless bow to her before he speaks.
"G'day guys. I just left Collens army and made my way north. It seems the NNGO have left and as I told him not to get used to me taking orders and saluting all the time, I was able to take my leave rather quickly. He was good about it. Top guy that Collen. Anyway, I made it finally. It's good to see you all here."
Gil moves forward and shakes Derwyddan's arm and embraces Smom fondly. He then stpes back and introduces himself to the new Lady present. As he bows again he quickly asses her attire and composure and realises who this is...
"Well met m'lady. I am Gilanthius Rosedragon, former Baker and dabbler of trading of Reading. You MUST be Richgrams. It is quite a pleasure to finally meet you!"

Looking at her mother and her best friend as they exchange kind words. "Mother I do not believe I have told any of you the good news yet, my beloved friend Gil is now the Baron of Wokingham. It is a title he is long overdue in inheriting. A pigeon had just arrived with the great news as I was freshing up."
Looking at Gil "Congratulations Baron Gilanthius"she smirked and giggled knowing he wasn't much for titles.

Upon hearing the news of Gil's new title, Derwydden slaps his friend on the back and ushers the servant to go and get a bottle of fine Irish whiskey and some glasses so that they can celebrate.
"Here, here. You deserve the honor Gil. When Alfred returns, we shall celebrate with a fine drop of stuff from the old country."

Quietly relieved and thankful when he hears Richgrams simple and honest welcome Gil feels a little more comfortable in the big house. As Smom announces the news of his new title, Gil's face lights up with surprise as the news hits home.
"Wow!"
Is about all he can manage to utter.
"Fancy that. HA! Me. A baron! lol What IS this world coming to?"
Gil chuckles a warming laugh and shakes his head in disbelief as he waits for Alfred to return with the whiskey...
"I think a stiff drink would be good about now Derwy, thanks!"

It will be so nice to finally catch up. I really have missed having you close. I hate to say I shall not miss Nuroc. I know he is your baby but he is a spoiled brat and I am glad to be rid of him."she sips her water waiting to hear her mother scold her but she had waited months to tell her Mom how she felt.

Turning to S'mom and Gil, Derwydden smiles and holds out his hand; as if beckoning them to join him.

With that, he escorts Richgrams up a flight of stairs and along a corridor.
"M'lady, I think you will find this room to your liking; and to think your daughter thought I was going to put you in the dungeon".
He laughs as he opens the door to her room.......
He then leads her through a communal study for her and Smom....
And finally into the nursery....

Turning back towards S'mom, he beckons her to follow him. He opens another door and ushers her in.
"Smom, I hope this room meets with your approval."
"I also took the liberty of bringing something important from Bracknell, I hope it is in the right place".

"It's beautiful, thank you M'lord" she says as he starts to show her the room.
As she slowly looks around she sees above the fireplace something irreplaceable, her wedding portrait. Her Kieran there smiling. Tears come to her eyes as she misses him so. Turning to Derwydden "Thank you so much, you will never know how much this means to me. My children will be able to see what their father looked like, Gil and I can tell them what kind of person he was but without a portrait they could never know if they have his smile or his eyes. I could tell them but seeing themselves will mean so much more. Thank you so very much." she is so happy and grateful she goes right up to him and gives him a hug and kiss on the cheek "Special, you are just special."
She turns from him and walks over to the portrait of Kieran and herself on their wedding day, a gift to them from her niece Asteria. "Kieran, This is my new home." she says to the portrait.

Derwydden chinks glasses with Gil and takes a sip.
"So what are your plans in Penrith my friend? I remember at Bracknell you talking about opening a bakery. Will be so nice to have your breads and pastries again."
Derwydden motions Gil to take a seat and then takes one himself by the fireplace.

Getting her thoughts back to reality and out of the memories of the past she realizes Derwydden has left the room, she hopes she did not offend him. Realizing she had forgotten an earlier promise, she turns to her chambermaid "Go get Molly for me, I need her right away."

As Molly entered the room and inquired as to Smom calling.....
"Yes Molly I did. I need you to pack a bag once more. There is a young woman whom I have befriended in town, she is with child and her husband is not here with her. I need you to go help her so she is not alone. I know you will enjoy her company as much as she will yours. I will still send for you when my time comes but I am never alone here at Naworth, she is." giving Molly a knowing look "You will find her at Rose cottage. She will be expecting you. Please just be yourself and she will grow to love you as I have. You may be in my employ but, I will always cherish you as more than a mere servant. I will be by to check on both of you as often as I can, my own pregnancy hindering me as well. Go .......I should have sent you long ago. And Molly.....be safe."she walks over to her belongings and pulls out a small dagger handing it to Molly "Just in case you need it." no woman should go unprotected ever.

"AHH that's good stuff Derwy! I must get some for my own place. The bakery? Yes It has just finished construction actually. You should pop in and I'll make something extra special for you. There isn't much I can't create, so long as i can get my hands on the required ingredients. I may even think about putting on an apprentice this time."
Gil takes another sip and stares blankley at the floor momentarily...
"And what of you my friend? Now that you are around your peers again and seemingly at home. What is next for the Earl?

Taking another sip from his whiskey, Derwydden looks at Gil and shakes his head.
"I have Smom and her family to look after and I am glad that Richgrams decided to come live with us. I know what a comfort she is to Smom, especially now that Smom has sent Molly to help GG out."
"I don't know what the future holds my friend, but I know the future of the unborn child that Smom carries is mine to protect, as I swore to Degas and also to Lord Casey. I just hope that Smom is happy here".
Looking at his friend, he smiles and drains his glass.

Gil listens to Derwy and understands the man's commitment and sense of duty and loyalty...
"Aye,,,You are a man of honour my dear noble friend of that I have no doubt. Truly a gentleman worthy of the title. As for Smom, she is tougher than you think. I have seen her bury to many demons in the past and I too hope she has found her Utopia here."
Gil downs the last of his whiskey and looks into the bottom of the glass for reflection...
"Nay for the moment my friend. I might go and see if Smom is settling in alright. I will have another one with you shortly. But for now, if you will excuse me?"
Gil stands up and makes to head up to Smoms chambers...

Watching Gil walk out of the room, Derwydden pours himself another drink and walks towards the window to look out into the night.
He realizes that as they had been enjoying dinner, the tours of their new rooms and then drinking whiskey with Gil, the first snows of the winter had fallen this night. It was a beautiful sight to behold.

Leaving Smom to have her privacy, Derwydden walks out of the room and back to the oak parlor.
Seeing that Gil was still there, he smiles and pours two glasses of whiskey.
"Here my friend, enjoy a drop of the good stuff from the old country. 'Sláinte go saol agat............it means health for life, to you."

Gil happily meets Derwyd's toast and takes a long slow sip from his glass, sighing in appreciation of good quality whiskey. He swirls the fluid in his glass a little as he responds..

Smom stands in the room Derwydden set aside for her and looks at her Bag, she stares at it as she is in deep thought. Her future was to be decided on and she had doubts, looking at the bag she made lists of pros and cons.........

" I really don't know Gil. I have made a lot of changes in my life recently and I'm finally home. I'm a military man by heart and know I will probably become involved with the local militia, as well as my duties to the Crimson Dragons of the Degas_Morgan household."
"Can I interest you in another glass Gil?"

"Okay, my friend........she will probably be happy to see you."

Gil leaves Derwydden to his thoughts and moves quietly through the big house. His feet move soundless across the floors as he makes his way to Smoms rooms. As he nears, Gil slows his pace. He notices that her door is open and he moves up to it slowly. Gil looks in and sees Smom standing in the middle of the room, seemingly just staring at one of her bags. He leans casually on one shoulder in the door frame and just watches her for a moment.......

As she is deep in thought she hears a tiny rustle behind her, had she been moving in the slightest it would have gone unnoticed but as she was perfectly still it alerted her. Turning around she sees Gil leaning in her doorway looking at her. She sees he looks concerned and puzzled, then she realized she must have looked silly staring at her bags that way.
She slowly walks over to him and takes one of his hands "Gil'' she squeezes his hand "your timing is perfect as always my friend. I really need to talk to you. I need some advice and yours has never failed me yet." knowing she wanted to talk to him in private but her bedchamber was not appropriate "Would you mind going for an evening stroll in the gardens with me? I really don't want anyone to overhear what I need to discuss with you, and the staff....well you know." holding his hand a bit tighter as she gives him a sad pleading look, yet not quite a pout."Please say yes."

Gil straightens and takes Smoms hand. He looks deep into her eyes and can see the indecision eating her alive.
"Of course dearest Smom. Let us go for a walk. You know I would always be ready to listen to your worries. Come.."
He takes her arm and they walk out of her room and down the hall towards one of the gardens..

Derwydden turns from the window and walks back towards the fireplace, warming himself for a few minutes.
Seeing as he is by himself, he decides to walk into the adjoining study and takes a seat at the desk. Opening the drawer, he removes a small box and a letter from it.
He opens the box and looks at the ring it contains. It belonged to his late father and by rights was his to wear.
He removes the signet ring from the box and places it on his right hand, feeling the weight of the solid gold piece of jewelry.
Opening the letter that accompanied the box, he begins to read......
Quote:
Folding the letter again, Derwydden puts it and the now empty box back in the drawer and closes it.
Wiping the tears from his eyes, he returns to the parlour and pours himself some more whiskey.
Taking a large swig, he holds the glass in the air, before throwing it into the roaring fireplace.
"Sláinte, Mathair, Athair. Neart, Grá agus Onóir"

As she enters the Parlor to get her cape she sees Derwydden throw whiskey into the flames and speaking in the old tongue of their forefathers, making her jump a bit at the flash of flame it causes.
"Excuse my intrusion M'lord, I shant be but a moment. I came for my cape I left in here earlier."

"M'lady, if you plan on going outside; please be careful. The snow has been falling and the gardens may be treacherous. Here, please take my cloak. It is a heavier material than you cape and will provide you more warmth and protection".
Walking over to her, Derwydden places his cloak around her shoulders; turning her around to fasten it around her neck. Placing his thumb and forefinger on her chin, he looks into her eyes and smiles. A thought crosses his mind, but he thinks better of it.
"If you need me to accompany you, then it would be my honor m'lady"

Taking his friends arm, they walk together out into the chilly evening. The first drifts of snow cover the ground and their feet leave marks in the ground. Small flakes are falling gently around them. Gil leads Smom to a small stone bench....
He can feel the apprehension in his friends movements....He turns to her..
"I can tell there is something eating you up in side Smom. We are alone now. We can speak freely."

Sitting on stone bench she is grateful for it's cold temperature for it reminds her she can feel, she has been going through the motions lately but not really aware of doing them. Looking at her closest an dearest friend she tries to fight back tears that are starting to well in her eyes.
"Gil, I don't know where to start. We all moved here for a new start and I know Derwydden was hoping mine would be with him but, I can't. I just can't." looking at her friend hoping he would understand "I don't want to hurt his feelings or lose his friendship but I just don't love him as more than a friend. Unless I am reading him really wrong he is starting to feel more than that towards me. I can't allow him to expose his heart to me only to have to crush it when he does. I will have to move out of his home. I can think of no other solution." looking hopefully at Gil "Can you?"

"He is a good man Smom. He is honorable and he does what is right. But that isn't always enough to pull ones heart strings. It is better to be honest with him of course. He deserves that. As for moving out, what of your mother as well? Where would you like to live then?"

Looking at Gil and still holding back tears for the whole subject made her sad.
"Yes, Mother will be moving with me as well. It will be no Bracknell but I hope to build a little cottage for Mother and I before the twins arrive," she places a protective hand on her swollen abdomen, it was becoming noticeable to all she was with child and the kicking was from more than one baby "I shall stay in my cousin's tavern till it is built. the rooms he has there are clean and warm."

Quote:
My beloved boy,
By the time you receive this letter, I will be long gone and you will have grown into a fine young man. I left this in the trust of Alfred and asked him to keep an eye on you and keep you on the righteous path of duty, honor and commitment.
Losing your mathair during child birth was one of the hardest losses I have ever had to endure, but seeing her in your face, her sparkle in your eyes; made life bearable. I know I wasn't always around and I know you may never fully understand why I was gone from home so long. I had my reasons, my own demons to fight.
Be happy in the knowledge that I am at peace and reunited with your mother and we will watch over you, for you are destined for an interesting life and I only wish that we were both there to enjoy your growth and development.
Take care my son and remember .... Neart, Grá agus Onóir .... it means Strength, Love and Honour
Your loving athair.
Faolán Macbratney.

Gil puts a comforting, protective arm around his friend and holds her close against the cold and to let her feel safe.
"Then if that is what you wish to do, that is what will happen. I wont try to decide your heart, for that is something that only you can do. I think it would be prudent if we informed Derwy of your decision as soon as possible. He at least deserves honesty after all he has done for us. Would you like me to talk to him? Or I can at least come with you to do it!"

But if you would not mind being close at hand I would be so grateful." looking up at him "I am so lucky to have a friend like you. Derwydden sits in the parlour, enjoying the warmth of the fire and sipping on the fine whiskey he is enjoying.
His mind full of thoughts about his father's letter and the ring he now wears and of the woman he has invited into his home and seemingly into his heart.
Shaking his head, he smiles to himself; thinking out loud.
"Yes my friend, she is indeed a strong, unique woman"
He rises from his chair and decides to take another look out of the window, wondering if the snow has gotten any deeper.

Gil leaves his arm around her shoulders as they walk back into the manor out of the gathering cold. They walk slowly towards the parlour where Earl Derwydden is relaxing, a warm soft glow from the fire, emenates out of the room. Gil stops a short distance from the door and turns Smom to face him...He gives her a small hug...
"I will be just out here if you need me ok?"
Gil's mind thinks of his poor friend resting just inside but is able to push it aside. This must be done now, before it goes further Gil....He thinks to himself.

As Gil ends the hug she so needed at that moment "Thank you Gil.'' she gives him a small reassuring smile before turning and slowly entering the Parlor.
"M'Lord" she says as she enters the room "I hate to disturb you so late but I fear I must speak with you."
She walks farther into the room and within a few feet of Derwydden "Would you mind if we sit? I seem a bit worn out today but must speak with you tonight, it can not wait any longer."

Turning to see Smom, Derwydden smiles at her, nodding in agreement as she asks to speak to him.
"M'lady, please." Derwydden motions towards the chairs by the fireplace.
Taking a seat, he looks at her face and can sense there is something troubling her.
"What is on your mind m'lady?" Derwydden looks at her concerned, his fingers playing with the glass in his hand.

Sitting in the chair by the fire she relaxes a bit as the fire's warmth washes over her. Looking at Derwydden "M'lord, as you know we have become closer since the move here to Penrith. I may be wrong but, I sense a growing affection from you that is more than that of a friend." pausing she glances into the fire fighting back her own emotions as she knew this was going to be as hard to say as it would be for him to hear.
"I fear my Mother and myself must move out of your home first thing in the morning. I cherish you as a friend but, we can have no more between us.'' pausing again and looking at him to see that he was following what she was saying " I freely admit I have been guilty of sending you mixed signals, giving you reason to believe we someday might be more. As much as it would be a comfort for me, I can not let either of us enter into a false relationship."
"I do hope you can forgive me and our friendship I have grown to cherish will remain intact. If you feel it can not, I will understand." looking at him as his expression starts to change "I am truly sorry I can not love you as a woman should love a man. I hope you understand."
she awaits his reaction to her words, grateful Gil is so close, for the knowledge gives her strength.

Derwydden listens to Smom's words, his chest tightening; like it had been pierced with a blade.
"M'lady, I....I don't understand. I thought you were happy here. I thought you wanted a new life here, together. I thought you were happy with me.?"
Rising from his chair, he downs the whiskey in his glass; his fingers tightening around it. Hearing it crack in his hand, he looks back at her with tears in his eyes.

Looking at Derwydden as he wants answers to questions she does not quite even understand herself. Flinching as he shatters the glass in his hand, she is a little afraid as she sees the tiny drops of blood drip from his hand before noticing the tears in his eyes. "I don't know why I feel the way I do, I .... I just don't love you as I should and to pretend is not fair." looking at him "Please understand I don't say this to hurt you but to prevent a tragic mistake from happening that will hurt more than just the two of us."

"As you wish M'lady. I see there is no changing your mind. I wish you would reconsider, but I will get Alfred and the others to assist you with packing in the morning. Anything bulky, I will send on once you and your mother have found a place"
Walking towards the door, his head bowed; as he tries to collect his thoughts.
"Good night m'lady." His voice is monotone, trying to hide the sadness contained within it.
Spotting Gil standing in the hallway, Derwydden looks at him and smiles.
"My friend, it is late and I will have the servants show you to our guest quarters. I know Smom could use your help in the morning. It will be a difficult time. I bid you goodnight."
Derwydden walks towards the staircase, shaking his head; climbing the stairs to his room. His mind is a mess of thoughts and feelings. His heart feeling like it will explode in his chest.
"Why Jah? Why?" He asks himself as he reaches the door to his room, his place of solitude; his sanctuary. It is only upon entering his room, does Derwydden realize he has the broken whiskey glass in his hand and his hand is bleeding.
Sitting on his bed, he bows his head; running his fingers through his hair. The tears flow freely, for he feels that his world is collapsing around him.

After Derwydden leaves the room, Smom sit quietly looking into the fire as tears roll down her cheeks, she hated hurting him yet could not go on pretending all was well when it was not. Looking down at her tummy 'we will be ok, this was for the best' she says to her unborn children.

The next morning, Derwydden rises early; eats a small breakfast and makes his way to the stables. He has decided that it is better if he is not around this morning. Letting Smom and Richgrams leave without any problems, would be the best policy. Gil was there for them and he had left instructions with Alfred to assist them in anyway.
As he enters the stables, the smell of fresh straw and horse flesh fills his nostrils. He walks down the line of horses, speaking to all of them in turn; until he reaches Hyperion.
"Morning boy, you ready to go for a ride? Look here, I have an apple for you."
Giving the apple to Hyperion, he pats his horses neck; before taking care of him and preparing him for a ride. After a short period of time and with it still not quite being light outside, Derwydden leads Hyperion out of the stables, mounts and rides off towards the lake and countryside.
He had a lot on his mind and this was the best way for him to think. Although he had pain in his heart, he wished no ill will towards Smom, knowing she must of had her reasons. It was just hard for him to deal with right now and it was best if he dealt with it alone.

Having fallen asleep in the chair by the fire Smom wakes in the middle of the night and goes into her room to stretch and get some good sleep, she will need it for the day ahead.
Awaking later than she would have liked, she gets up and walks over to the wash basin and washes the sleep from her eyes as she refreshes her face before giving herself a small sponge bath. Dressing in clothes she can move easily in as she has lots of work to do today she smooths out her skirt before going to look out the window. The snow has fallen a bit more overnight but is not too heavy on the ground to hinder the moving she must do.
Seeing as how she was hesitant unpacking she actually has very little to pack back up. She heads off to her Mothers room to see how she is doing. Upon seeing her mother busily packing away she heads down to the stables.
When she reaches the stables she instructs the stable hands that she will need Roi and Anzac hooked up to her carriage and will be sending for the other three horses as soon as arrangements can be made. Seeing the wolfhounds playing nearby she asks the stable boy if he would mind watching them until she found a real home as having on dog in a room above a tavern was going to be crowded enough till she had a proper home once more. My, she did miss Her Manor Bracknell. With a sigh she knows a new start would not come without it's hardships. As the stable boy hesitates a moment "I will pay you for their keep and your time." He readily agrees as he was aware how much those wolfhounds consume daily. As he hands him a few pounds to keep them for now, he readily accepts it as he has never had so much money in his hands at one time. Grinning he runs off to play with the dogs. Shaking her head and smiling at the sight she is so happy to see someone smiling and carefree she gives each of the stable hands one pound each to allow the boy his time of joy without being disturbed or scolded for neglecting his duties.
Heading back inside she realizes she is hungry and stop into the kitchen for a bite to eat. She will miss living at Naworth for it was very pleasant to do so. But she must leave as she can not allow any more mixed signals to ruin her friendship with the Earl. He was a good man and she cared for him dearly yet, try as she might she just did not love him enough to give him hope.

Richgrams is heading for the kitchen to get a bite to eat, when she finds Smom just leaving it.
"How are you holding up, Smom? My packing is finished and I'm quite hungry. Let me grab a quick apple or piece of bread, and then I'll meet you in our sitting room.
We can have a talk before we leave? I still have some unanswered questions about the future."

"Yes mother" she says before watching her go to the kitchen to eat.
Heading upstairs and down the hall she sees the nursery and tears up a little as her unborn children will never see that room, it is for the best she knows and goes into her room to make sure all is packed.
As all is packed and ready, Smom calls Alfred and asks to have her and her mothers things taken to the carriage and delivered to the Tavern before returning for them. Looking at her room one last time she suddelny remembers the painting of her and Kieran, "Alfred please make sure the painting goes as well and that nothing happens to it." she smiles as she sees Kieran and knows she is making the right choice as she does know what true love feels like. She just does not love Derwydden that way he deserves a woman who does.
Entering the sitting room she is joined by her mother and they start discussing the future. Smom will be building them a home she has already sent for supplies and the crew of 100 Irishmen her father in law sent from Ireland to build it, it will be a exact copy of her beloved Bracknell. She just had to find the land to put it on before they arrived tomorrow. Jah help her she was going to get it done.

As she leans on Gil's shoulder enjoying his warmth and strength, " I know after all he has done I need to face him myself. But if you would not mind being close at hand I would be so grateful." looking up at him "I am so lucky to have a friend like you. I just hope I don't lose Derwydden's friendship tonight."sighing "I guess I am ready to go tell him, no time like the present."

As Molly enters the sitting room it is obvious to Smom her most loyal servant is upset. "Molly I have decided to leave Naworth. I shall be staying at the tavern while my new home is built. Do not worry by time you are finished with your service to Adrianna Stewart, the new Manor will be habitable." giving her a reassuring smile "Lord Casey Sr. is sending the crew that worked to build Bracknell after the fire with all the supplies I could possibly need. He wants to make sure his grandchildren are well cared for in their fathers stead. Perhaps that gentleman you flirted with will be amongst them." Laughing when Molly talked of overstepping her position, it was one thing Molly did well and what made Smom enjoy her company so very much.
Putting her hands up in surrender "Ok...Ok you win. But I must insist you ride with Mother and Myself. I have a stop to make along the way and I do not want Mother to be bored by herself."
With that the three women take one last look around the sitting room before heading down to the carriage and away from Naworth. Looking back at the castle as they rode away, Smom hoped her friend Derwydden would someday forgive her and she would be invited for a visit once more.

After seeing Smom to her room and making sure things were ready for the morrow, Gil had retired to the guest rooms after bidding Derwydden good night. Gil shook the young Earl's hand and looked his new friend in the eye before expressing his regret at the recent events.
Rising early, Gil had ridden out to make some preparations and to see to a few more important matters. Arriving back at the Manor Gil found Smom, Richgrams and Molly all preparing to leave. A coach awaited them at the front of the house. Gil turned 'Mate' around and rode along quietly beside the coach.

Surveying the countryside around him, Derwydden smiles to himself for the first time today.
"Well Hyperion my boy, it seems to be just the two of us again. " Derwydden pats his horse and surveys the countryside.
Seeing his breath mist in front of him, Derwydden pulls his cloak around him tighter...........looking up into a nearby tree, he notices a cobweb and enjoys it's beauty for a moment...
Turning Hyperion to the right, Derwydden follows the trail down towards the river.
After crossing the bridge, Derwydden finds himself at a crossroads, closing his eyes for a moment, he lifts his head towards the sky.
"Jah, guide this lost soul; so that he may find true hapiness again"
As he opens his eyes, his way forward seems clearer. Taking the road to the left, he rides off to adventures unkown.

Spending the night at a roadside tavern, Derwydden decides to write Alfred a letter detailing his plans and the changes he wants made at Naworth.
Quote:
Re-reading the letter, he smiles to himself; before sealing it and calling the bar keep over.
"My good man, please make sure this letter gets delivered to Naworth Castle. Here is five pounds for your trouble. So I trust it will be there with all god speed"
The bar keep nods and hurries away, as Derwydden enjoys the rest of his ale and the food he had pushed to the side to pen his letter. He would spend the night here and push on in the morning. Still undecided where he was headed, he knew that he had to clear his head and make some decisions.

Quote:
My dear Alfred,
In light of recent events, I have decided to take a few days to travel and enjoy this great county of ours. I shall eventually return to Naworth, but I need you to make some changes before my return.
Please strip the bedrooms and nursery that I set aside for Smom and her mother. Although it pains me to do it, I cannot bear the thought of seeing those empty rooms and knowing what might have been.
I wish for you to transfer them into guest quarters and move my bedroom to the south wing of the castle. There is plenty of money in the treasury to cover the expenses and please make sure all the staff are paid their christmas bonus.
I am still undecided where I will spend Christmas, but the thought of spending it alone in a castle with just my memories does not fill me with feelings of joy.
Once I have made some decisions, I will write you again and let you know my intentions.
Thank you for being the man you are, you have always been so much more than a mere servant.
If I do not see you before the new year, then I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Take care my friend and we shall see where the new year takes us.
Regards
Derwydden MacBratney
Earl of Gwent.
